Connors Acting Journey

The radium girls were a group of female factory workers who contracted radium poisoning from painting watch dials with luminous paint containing radium. This all took place in the early 20th Century. A corporation by the name "United States Radium Corporation" or "USRC" was one of the leading companies in the production of the luminous watch dials. This corporation used a radium paint which they called "Undark" which made the dials glow in the dark. The working conditions for these women in the corporations was what led to them their jaws decaying and dying to the radium poison because they were instructed to use a technique known as "lip-pointing" where they would shape the paintbrushes with their lips to ensure a fine pointed brush. This was the process that led to them digesting the radium, as when they were shaping the brush with their lips the brushes were laced with radium and they were doing this multiple times a day.  No one knew the risk...

Character Analysis My main research source that I will be using is from the book, to fully understand these characters as it is closer to the portrayal and have more similarities of what both of them are like in this show compared to what they are like in the film. For Cheswick I think the film and book do a really good job at diving into the character similarity wise whereas for Dr. Spivey you don't get to see too much interaction with him and McMurphy in the film to fully understand and see the strings McMurphy wins over the Dr.  Charles Cheswick Like in the book and the same as the other acutes Charles is seen as a significant secondary character because of the actions him and the other acutes do to help pave McMurphy's life in the institute. Mia Tuesday 23rd This was my only filming day for this film and it was two scenes. We were at location of another cast members house and we used their back garden for the scene. The scene was a close party of just a few of us. Were talking, laughing and drinking, some of us were even smoking. The context of the scene was that its Sonny's 18th birthday so he's having some drinks with his mates round his. The other scene is the first scene where they meet at a party and he offers her a cigarette.  The character I played in this film was called George and I say the line "talk back you knob." As much as this wasn't a stretch for me, it was fun to be back in front of a camera and have a chance to show of characterisation through smaller roles that may not say a lot.  Echoes of Monday In this film I play the character Jason Winter, he is a business man with insomnia who believes he is living in a loop since he keeps waking up in his bed when he falls asleep at his desk....

Thursday 8th February For stuff today after the cast list had came out, we all met up in the black box room and got our scripts handed to us so we could start working on going through lines. Today was just the read through, so I decided to read ahead as AJ doesn't come into it until after quite a few pages. I noted that when he does come into the show though he doesn't leave once and he has a lot of lines dotted around and a big duologue with Matt when they're having their moment. Audition The audition process for One Flew Over was different this time around because instead of doing a monologue from the script, for the certain character we wanted, we had to make our own acting CV's as well as get updated head shots and find our own monologues. My monologue ended up being from a script called 'Peoples, places and things,' this wasn't the first monologue I had in mind though. The first monologue I was thinking about doing was Joey's monologue from Jim Cartwright's 'road' script. My main reason for steering away from this monologue was because I was having a hard time connecting with the piece and understanding it. I ended up asking around if anyone had good ways to look for monologues from contemporary pieces as I wanted mine to be from a stage show. I got some websites sent to me from a friend last year who was on our course and that's how I found the right monologue that was exactly what I wanted and could connect with as well...

Section 1: Rationale (approx. 100 words) Since coming to the college, I had no acting prior and no experience I wasn’t really researched on much as well. So, throughout my two years on this course I have learnt about practitioners and their certain methods that we have utilized into our warm-ups and performances. I have grown more confident with myself and improved my skills throughout the years for example improvisation being a big improvement. I have learnt how to find monologues and learn them easily, I have learnt the difference between stage and screen and what auditions in the industry will be like. During the course as well, I have done production roles since that is also part of my qualification, so I have learnt the behind the scenes that acting offers as well. In my year one journey I mentioned about things that I could work on / improve and range of which roles I haven't really had to express yet. We started off the second year with a bunch of improvisation warm-ups to get us ready for ghost light tours: a night with Burke and Hare. For this year of ghost light we started off strong, by devising and researching for the show, we were in groups and would have to get our own information that we could incorporate into the show. This was already more than what we did last year as we came up with our own ideas but we didn't go into the level of detail like this year. We worked on duologues and started off with looking for Shakespeare monologues for Universities and we all had our own directing projects we were apart of.
