One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Project Proposal - Unit 12 extended project

Section 1: Rationale (approx. 100 words)

Since coming to the college, I had no acting prior and no experience I wasn’t really researched on much as well. So, throughout my two years on this course I have learnt about practitioners and their certain methods that we have utilized into our warm-ups and performances. I have grown more confident with myself and improved my skills throughout the years for example improvisation being a big improvement. I have learnt how to find monologues and learn them easily, I have learnt the difference between stage and screen and what auditions in the industry will be like. During the course as well, I have done production roles since that is also part of my qualification, so I have learnt the behind the scenes that acting offers as well. I have undergone auditions at University as that is my next step and I am looking at going to a University that focuses more on the screen side of acting instead of the stage side.

Section 2: Project concept (approx. 200 words)

I am very happy with the decision of the show as I wanted to tackle rawer and grittier shows that have a range of emotions through characters. I also want to tackle building chemistry with my peers as sometimes that can be the hardest challenge for the show and if the chemistry lacks for a show like this that’s when it doesn’t feel real. I think all of the characters in this project are going to be a challenge due to the physicality of the characters and portraying their problems as they call it in the show. I also think the accent won’t be a struggle this year as I have improved on my American accent throughout being on the course. A challenge will be trying to show the journey of these characters and making the audience fall in love with them just to have their heart broken when their plan fails to Nurse Ratched. One of my main challenges will be my natural movement as these characters aren’t like Wizard of Oz or Peter Pan where its fairy tale, they are real people so their movement has to be natural when moving from one space to the other. From reading the script a challenge will be learning lines in such little time whilst also getting through the stage directions since the stage directions are very blocky and take up a lot of the pages on the script. My aim for this project is continue with my research from the film and book to help with adapting what character I get in the show. I am going to go into my audition with my monologue that I have chosen, hoping that shows the emotion of the character I would like to play in One Flew Over and my range as an actor altogether.

Section 3: Evaluation (approx. 50 words)

Throughout the production and rehearsals, I aim to stay up to date on my blog to help me remember what I did with my character that I get given and the journey of their movement. This will help me reflect on past rehearsal days and my audition for this show I can use and stay up to date with what I need to work on next time when going to my next rehearsal. I will also get feedback from peers or tutors from my rehearsals so I can reflect on that aswell.
