Project Proposal - Little Women - Unit 8

Section 1: Rationale

I came to this college with hardly little introduction to acting, since I came from a different college originally doing sport. I took a liking for acting when I hit year 7 and 8 but nothing really came from it. I think what made me remember why I liked it so much the first time was the creativity side of things and the thrill of it all, even though I hadn’t done any shows prior to joining. After, starting the course I’ve loved it since day 1, there has been certain times where I’ve thought if I’m on the right career path or not but never anything major to sway my mind away from it all. I feel like I have grown a lot since my very first stage performance for ghost light tours which gave me the confidence to go into that audition room for Wizard of Oz and audition for the Tinman, which looking back I’m glad I did as I loved every minute of that performance and I loved the cast I was with. I have gone from strength to strength showing I have it in me to achieve what I put my mind to.

Section 2: Project Concept

My aims for this project are to give it my all and have fun with it, since it will be one of the final times we will get to share the stage with such amazing and special classmates like the 2nd years. I also want to be able to show that I’m ready for second year and that I can take on any role and play it to my best. I auditioned for the role of Laurie as I felt that he would definitely be a challenge, as would any role due to the time era and the nature of the story. Even though I may not get the role I audition for, I still think any role will be an added challenge for me. The other added challenge also being the American accent as I struggled with it as Tinman in Wizard of Oz with one word, but now I need to be able to show a difference between the accents so that I’m not too much like the Tinman when it comes to it. Etiquette will be another challenge as I never saw myself doing anything classical so jumping into that time era was going to be a struggle as I had to learn how to be a gentleman in the 1800s.

Section 3: Evaluation

The main challenge I’m going to face is Ned, as I feel like I can give Mr. March a softer approach due to him being a loving father. Whereas, Ned on the other hand is described as full of himself, rich and posh. So, I feel he needs to be higher up and boring compared to everyone else as he thinks everyone should sort of fall to his feet. I think I’m going to take research from the film adaptations, and feedback from the likes of Kelly and peers.

Project Action Plan and Timetable

Week

Date week

beginning

Activity/what you intend to do - including independent study

Resources / what you will need to do - including access to resources

1

Monday 24th April

I intend to learn my audition piece on time and be fully confident with it.

For this I will use my script and look at resources on how to write a good monologue.

2

Tuesday 9th May

At this point we had the cast list. Had to learn the lines for scene 2 for Ned. Learn the ballroom dance scene as well.

Use my script and the peers in that scene to block the scene and learn the lines. Using resources to find the right etiquette and right style of dance era for the ballroom scene.

3

Monday 15th May

We are going to run through Re-cap scenes we had done so far then moving onto running through rest of act 1 where there is another scene with Ned and a scene as the father.

4

Monday 22nd May

Moving onto the first couple scenes of act 2. Which couple of father scenes are in.

We Plan to do a full run through all the way through act 1 and 2 for all 3 casts so learnt Ned and Fathers lines. Hopefully, with a complete set whilst also doing props which is my production role.
