One Flew Over Rehearsal Process
Wednesday 29th April / Thursday 30th April
I didn't do much of One Flew Over on these days as I was running back and forth between both shows but I did get the first two scenes of Dr Spivey done. I also jumped in for a Scanlon since one of them was off ill and the other was needed for Radium girls. When Olly had returned though for Scanlon I placed myself in the background of the institute to just be part of the scenes and give it more of a mental institute feeling.
Tuesday 7th May
Today I was Dr. Spivey and we did all the act one scenes and I feel comfortable with this character I just needed to lose the script asap. Since I understand the character and have him in my head how I want to portray him I just need to get off script now and bring it more to life. So when it wasn't my scenes I was off at the side trying to learn my lines whilst also watching what scenes they were doing.Thursday 9th May
So today was the first day I received an added extra challenge for Cheswick. So we started a run of act one to teach me and Keiran and we would stop and start just so they could explain the blocking too us. We didn't get far into act one but we got far enough where we felt comfortable to go into act two on monday when we came back. We got to the first meeting scene just as it closed because of our behaviour. This was the best they had done this scene the boys had said because everyone was ready and lively and it was amazing cause how we all bounced off one another.
Monday 13th May
This was my second day as Cheswick so I was still slowly getting to grips with him and trying to find the character. We started off on act 2 since we got to the end of act one on Thursday since the best way to do the blocking was to try and just go for a full run through of it. We didn't get too far into act two since we did switch casts aswell so they could have a try but we did get some of the blocking sorted and it polished it up for people like me who just got a new role.
Tuesday 14th / Wednesday 15th / Thursday 16th May
Over these three days we worked over the party scene and gradually you could see it improving and becoming more lively which is what we were trying to get right the first time we did this scene on Tuesday. It took alot of time and effort for this scene because of how big of a scene it really is.
So on Thursday we worked on party scene again today and I always found myself doing something new, this time we all decided to just let loose and go for it to make the party seem more crazy and wild and so that we were having a great time. Since it is supposed to be a massive scene since everything starts off so high for them all dancing around drinking all the medicine stuff and then it all comes crashing down once Nurse Ratched arrives. Everything happens all after the other and so reactions need to be huge and we need to remember not too get too carried away into the reactions cause then we end up missing important information.
Monday 20th May
I focused on doing sound cues today whilst cast one started their run through again. I would jump in for Spivey when I needed to and then go back on the computer and start the sound back up again since the music brings the ambience to the show and brings it to life for the characters.
Tuesday 21st May
Today we started off the morning going over things we hadn't done for either casts and making a list, ticking it off when we went over the scene, this is just so we could polish up parts of the blocking that we hadn't done or for some people who were too focused on radium girls and didn't do much of One Flew Over so they had to learn the blocking. The main scenes we focused on today was the basketball scene just to get it out the way since it's not too hard of a scene we just like to complicate things for ourselves. When cast two did it, we had energy, we were all ready and it went really well we managed to get it done in pretty good time and it didn't look too sloppy. When cast one did it, it took them more of a while to get it going but they got there eventually and from spectator pov again it didn't look too sloppy. We then worked on scenes like the baseball and then start scenes that some had missed. We also did Nurse Ratched's monologue scene.
Wednesday 22nd May
Today it was cast one run of the show in the theatre so I was Spivey I made sure I was always on ready for all my cues so that I wasn't holding us up doing the run. I didn't manage to do all the Spivey scenes this time as I went to Radium girls half way through just so that I could go and familiarise myself with that show since I put all my time into one flew over since getting Cheswick.
With the last day and us having the theatre we did a full cast run through of cast two since we had already done a run through of cast one in this space. I was Cheswick this cast so I was on stage for most of it. This time I managed to remember my cue lines when it came to beginning of the show. I also got told in bits that I was still a little quiet on like one or two other than that I was perfect and the people at the back could hear me. I think we've managed to leave it in a good position to take this week off now ready for the show.
