Feature Film Auditions - #YOLO
Friday 1st December
We had been giving the script for "#YOLO" and the audition pieces for each character. My first decision was Johnno but I felt like I had already played a sort of best friend character. That's chilled back and calm but can also have an outburst about him if things go wrong. So I decided instead to go for Jack as I felt like I haven't really played a real emotional character that can pull at heart strings and feels more real compared to the sort of over the top cartoony character's I have played before.
We got the audition schedule on the day before and I was paired up with Sophia as Jack and Josie. I felt great about this as I have some chemistry with Sophia and we can bounce well off each other and we have also filmed together from when we did "Red Herring". We had a bit of time to run through it together to understand the scene and understand how long certain beats need to be and about eye contact and everything else like blocking and real raw emotion from both of us as this was the first time we had ran through it together. So when it was our turn we were confident but still nervous as it is good to still have nerves as you can use them in your audition for emotion. I thought everything went well from the breakdown of Jack to Josie's big switch from being annoyed to concerned for him and I feel like when it came to the hard hitting words like tumour and cancer I got it across how I wanted it to come across like I wanted it to come across hard hitting for Josie so that she would understand the severity of situation. After we had finished we got told it was a good performance and I was told to stay back as they may call me back for the Jack and Johnno audition.
For the Jack and Johnno audition they could only choose four Jacks out of everyone who had done it. Since this audition was the call backs for the Jack's but also the Johnno's auditions aswell. The four people to be called back for Jack were, me, Aiden, Elliott and Noah. I ended up being paired with Harvey which again I felt great about as me and Harvey are close mates so we have that natural chemistry. When we went in I immediately moved the chairs out the way so that it wasn't in the scene as I saw it more as Jack being sat on the sand staring out to the sea than him being sat on a bench. Everything went great again there was just one slip up from Harvey but it worked since he paused for a long time but he made it seem like he was thinking of why Jack would be upset and it still kept the scene going. Pauses in the scene are not a bad thing either as everything that's big needs to linger to put the characters in that real feeling. I felt as though I rushed the paragraph at the end when I'm talking about a sand castle we built as kids and I stuttered alot more than I should of other than that we got told it was great again and that was the end of auditions for Jack and Johnno.
