Assignment 2: Task 6 - Performance Evaluation
Task 6
I feel like I have progressed a lot since my role in the ghost light tours. One of the major progresses being auditions since during the ghost light audition I was very nervous, shaking, stuttering and muddling up my lines the whole time, but for wizard of oz auditions I ended up doing two where I was a bit nervous at first when I was answering the questions about the Tinman but once I steadied into the process I managed to get through it with ease with just one problem being the stiffness. For the lion audition I was on script mainly because I got told to learn the role I wanted more, I knew the first couple of lines from the top of my head I just had to use the rest of the script for the change of emotion. Going into the show it was very nerve wracking because I now had a lot more lines from when I did the ghost light tours because that role was mainly me and Will blocking a piece together with one little rhyme, whereas for wizard of oz it was a full length role where I had a big part. Some of the feedback I got on my performance was mostly positive with a tiny bit of negative being that I couldn't pronounce the word heart, in an American accent, many times in the show. Some of the positive was how I varied the emotion when doing the monologue and everytime I mentioned about not having a heart or the time I was angry at the wizard. There was multiple fails with the box like walking up the stairs I was very slow, we had to change a couple of the scenes just so we didn't break it as well. The hat fell off on the second show because my hair wasn't slicked back so when it was my next show day I had to take some hair gel home to slick my hair back so that this time the hat would stay on. I also forgot one of my lines but luckily the scarecrow managed to save me by improvising a line which I then remembered mine. There was also a show we had a different lion so it meant having to get rid off all the chants because our cast was different to his cast.
What I have learnt is your always going to have the minor fails it's all about how you can keep it flowing without ruining the show because not everyone is perfect especially for there first time. Things I need to change is being more confident in myself because there was a lot of times I felt embarrassed or nervous due to a slip up I made. For the rest of the year and going into the next year I need to improve in being focused more and putting myself down for every opportunity because I can't put all my eggs in one basket because if that doesn't work out I have nothing to fall back on.
