Assignment 1: Task 1

 Warm-ups

The two warm-ups I will be talking about are called 'the human knot' and 'what are you doing?'. The aim of 'the knot' is to split into two small circles and everyone walk into the middle and link both your hands with two different people. After that the aim is to try and untie everyone in your group before the other circle. The purpose of this task to help with communication skills with different or newer people as you have to communicate to help one another get out the knot, the warm-up also gives everyone a clear understanding of who the leader of the group is going to be as they will normally be the person to first and talk the most. What I've learnt from this warm-up is how to communicate more to newer people that I've just met and haven't really spoke to which also helps boost my confidence. The aim of 'what are you doing?' is to get into a circle or two (depending on how many of you there is) and one person goes into the circle and starts doing an action, someone different then goes into the circle and asks the person doing the action 'what are they doing?' the person then replies with a completely different action which then that person who asked has to perform. The skills developed in this warm-up are again communication but also its putting you out of your comfort zone a tiny bit, so helping boost confidence, as you have to perform an act in front of everyone whose in the circle.

The warm-up I have chosen is called 'Try not to laugh' the aim of the game is for everyone to collectively choose a person to make you all try and laugh. Everyone then starts to walk around the room in different directions and can't stop walking until told to do so. When told to stop everyone then must do some sort of improv or creative thinking, for example pretending to interact with an object or anything else apart from interacting with the player you all have chosen to make you laugh. The player then walks around doing anything to try make everyone laugh without touching anyone. After a minute everyone starts walking around again and so on till there's one person left who hasn't laughed. The skills you learn for this game is a bit of improv and creativity as you have to think of the spot with something to do and you have to think of something to do to make people laugh. It also teaches you how to stay serious and try not laugh as much for example if you on a set.
